Agreed 🙂 If he had only stuck with the enviornment as an issue instead of running away from it, he might have become president. Did you catch him on SNL last weekend? Pretty funny stuff.

Hi Chris. I guess I am saying yes because he wasn’t himself in that presidential race. Instead of doing what he thought was right, he listened to advisers and consultants and toned down the whole environmental crusade. So he didn’t come across as genuine and I think that cost him votes. People can spot a phony a mile away and I think people picked up on that fact that Al Gore that they saw was a ‘manufactured’. Just my 2 cents.

Hey Vinny, nice review. I definitely agree with your point about him embracing his environmental side…but another thing is I don’t think he fully understood it–it took an ego crush, and soul searching, for him to rediscover his passion and use it to the fullest.

We just watched ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ and I was very impressed by Al Gore’s honesty, compassion and perserverance to get this important message across to the world. What was most disturbing, is how congress has basically ignored this devastating information currently and for years by taking scientist and Mr. Gore seriously.
On the note of Al Gore running for the Presidency and losing. Many people, including my husband and I, still believe is was an unfair election, due to the voting and the way it was handled. Perhaps Mr. Gore would have won the election if the votes were counted properly and fairly. It’s a dead issue now but let’s hope this never happens again in future elections.
Vinny, I don’t agree with your perception of Al Gore not coming across as genuine in the election. True, he wasn’t as confident as he is now but Bush was an embarrassment. It would have been in Bush’s interest if he had been more manufactured. Next to Bush’s lack of ability to be genuine and lack of ability to lead, Gore was impeccable.
The bottom line is, it is unfortunate for all Americans that a President, such as Bush, doesn’t have the backbone or sense to do what is necessary with the facts on the environment issues, among many, many other issues. After seeing Bush in action (or lack of), I have absolutely no doubt that if Al Gore had become president, this country would have been much better off today!
